Crack scientists have revealed that we could be taking trains to space in just 20 years’ time.The ‘Startram’ magnetic space train is set to send up to four million people into space as soon as 2032, according to its designers. This may seem like an optimistic prediction, but the project, dubbed ‘space train’, uses real technology available today, and so could be developed within a few years.Startram was designed by one of the inventors of the monorail-type trains, which work by what is known as ‘magnetic levitation’, as seen today in Shanghai, China. The Startram would be catapulted into space in a sealed capsule, cutting journey times to just seconds. It is also claimed that the project will cut the cost of space travel significantly, although others argue that it will cost billions per journey to operate.Startram inventors claim that their creation would be the ‘next great step’ for mankind, allowing an escape route from Earth in the unlikely event a global disaster.
