Boater identified as Hamilton man

Police have identified the body of a boater who went missing on Aug. 22 as a 48-year-old Hamilton man.Police say David Doyle went out into Lake Erie to go fishing in a small vessel at about 11 a.m. on Aug. 22 off the shoreline near Featherstone Point.When a friend checked the lake from shore through a telescope about an hour later they noticed the boat was empty and contacted police.The Haldimand County OPP Marine Unit, Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre, and an OPP helicopter searched the area and located the boat. A search of the area was conducted until dusk.The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit resumed a search of the area on Aug. 23. Doyle’s body was found at about 3 p.m. on Aug. 25.Victim Services of Haldimand-Norfolk have been involved and are assisting the family.Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 1-888-310-1122.
