Usain Bolt ran under 10 seconds for the first time this year as he narrowly won the 100 metres at the Monaco Diamond League meeting on Friday. The eight-times Olympic sprinting champion was slow out of the blocks, just as he was in his last race in Ostrava last month, and never managed to put a big gap between him and the field. He won in 9.95 seconds, three hundredths of a second ahead of American Isiah Young. South Africa’s Akani Simbine was third in 10.02.Before the meeting, the Jamaican went to Germany to have treatment for back issues that have troubled him for years. It was his last outing before next month’s world championships in London where he will race in the 100 metres and 4x100m relay.”It was good, I’m going into right direction, still a lot of work to do,” said Bolt, who is scheduled to retire after the world championships.”I’m always here for the fans, and of course I will miss the vibe around the track. Mixed emotions always — happy for my career, sad that it is ending. Sub 10 is always good. It was an exciting race, lots of energy.”Photo Credit: Reuters Olympic and world champion Wayde van Niekerk won a titanic battle against Botswana’s Isaac Makwala to take the 400 metres. The South African, also the world record holder in the event, made a lightning start, then Makwala recovered to lead coming off the final bend before Van Niekerk powered down the final straight to win in 43.73 seconds.advertisementMakwala’s time of 43.84 was a personal best.Van Niekerk’s fellow South African, Caster Semenya, won a dramatic women’s 800 metres in a season’s best and meeting record time of 1:55.27.The Olympic champion snatched the win in the last few metres ahead of Burundi’s Francine Niyonsaba and Ajee Wilson, who both set national records. The trio had been neck and neck down the final straight.Wilson’s 1:55.61 shattered the previous U.S. record of 1:56.40 set by Jearl Miles-Clark in 1999.Elijah Manangoi upstaged a strong field to win the men’s 1500 metres in a year’s best time of 3:28.80.He sped past compatriot Timothy Cheruiyot on the final straight after the two broke clear of the field while Olympic champion Matt Centrowitz was well beaten in ninth.Manangoi’s fellow Kenyan, Emmanuel Korir, also ran the fastest time of the year as he won the men’s 800 metres in 1:43.10.

Honor Watch Magic review: Affordable smartwatch with good fitness tracking and even better battery lifeAt Rs 14,999, the Honor Watch Magic is one of the more affordable smartwatches out there. Does it offer enough features to warrant its price or should you opt for other smartwatches instead?advertisement Next Sanket Vijayasarathy New DelhiMay 9, 2019UPDATED: May 9, 2019 11:03 IST 7.5/10HIGHLIGHTSThe Honor Watch Magic costs Rs 14,999 in India. The smartwatch offers a circular dial, workout tracking and heart rate monitoring. It also comes with an excellent 4-day battery life.Smartwatch sales really picked up in the US last year, but it’s not the same situation in India. As per a Counterpoint research, the Indian smartwatch market only makes up 1 per cent of global share, which means smartwatches are yet to take off in a big way in the country. In that 1 per cent market share, Apple is still the dominant brand with the Apple Watch. Fitbit and Samsung have done well in India too, and now Honor hopes to join the game with the Honor Watch Magic. The Honor Watch Magic is a Rs 14,999 smartwatch that comes with a circular dial and is made to look like a regular watch in terms of design. But the Honor Watch Magic also offers typical smartwatch features like workouts, sleep tracking and heart rate monitoring along with notifications and so on. These don’t seem so bad for its pricing, but is this a good enough smartwatch for your needs. We review the Honor Watch Magic to find out.Honor Watch Magic Design and DisplayThe Honor Watch Magic looks like a regular watch, which means it should appeal to a wider audience. You have a circular dial with a chronometer and a non-rotating bezel as opposed to the Galaxy Watch which does offer a convenient rotating bezel. The surface of the body of the Honor Watch Magic and the buttons of the right side are stainless steel while the underside of the watch is plastic. The unit we received for review has has cowhide on the surface of what is actually a silicone strap. The leather and steel look is quite classic and is something you would like to sport for formal occasions or to a workplace.advertisement The combination of these materials also help make the Honor Watch Magic quite lightweight. The straps can be detached easily if you want to replace them with something sportier. The two buttons on the right side of the watch are used to bring up actions on the display. The screen itself is 1.2 inches, which is a decent size so you can read content on the screen without squinting. The Honor Watch Magic comes with a heart rate sensor that can be seen on the bottom of the body and the watch itself is 5ATM water-resistant, so you can take it for a swim. The 1.2-inch AMOLED display offers a 390×390 pixel resolution. The display is bright and sharp, making it legible outdoors under intense sunlight. Colours look vivid and pleasing to the eyes and viewing angles are good too, so you can see the time even if you’re looking at it from an angle.Honor Watch Magic Performance and Fitness TrackingTo setup and pair the Honor Watch Magic, you will first need to download the Huawei Health app on Android or iOS. I paired the watch with an iPhone XR for review. The pairing process was simple enough and the app gives syncs with the watch to display your steps count, calories burnt, distance travelled and heart rate overview. It’s important to know that the custom software that the Honor Watch Magic runs on is quite limiting. You won’t be able to download third-party apps or watch faces as you would be able to on Wear OS. What you get is whatever is preloaded in the watch, nothing more or less. On one hand, this may disappoint customers who want to be able to download a bunch of apps (fitness, reminders, notes and so on) to make the most out the smartwatch, while on the other hand it may please some who want a no-frills and easy-to-use fitness watch.Overall, the UI is fairly easy to understand and work with. However, I feel the UI could have been smoother and more intuitive. There is a noticeable lag or stuttering while swiping on the display. It is also hard to distinguish the notifications you receive as they get a similar message icon rather than the actual icons of the apps you’re getting the messages from. In such instances, the Galaxy Watch or the Apple Watch look far more visually appealing and helpful, but you will have to pay a higher price for that. While you can’t download apps, the Honor Watch is fairly populated with exercises that you might need and a few preloaded watch faces. You get trackers for running, cycling, swimming, climbing and walking, all of which can be accessed by pressing the bottom button. The button on the top will let you access heart rate, sleep, stress, barometer, compass, weather, messages and so on.advertisementMost of the workouts offer fairly good readings, although the accuracy of it may be questionable, but it’s honestly difficult to know how off the tracker is unless you also have another device to compare it with. For steps and heart rate, the Honor Watch Magic offered readings that were more or less similar to the Apple Watch Series 3. You’ll find it usually off by plus or minus 10 to 15 steps, which is acceptable. Swim tracking also gives a ballpark reading of the distance you’ve swum and calories burned. However, it doesn’t provide a lap count, which is something you will get on the Fitbit Versa, for example. The GPS tracking is quite excellent on the Honor Watch Magic as it measures the distance travelled and calories burned with a good amount of accuracy without your smartphone on you. The Huawei Health app gives you a pretty good overview of stats that tell you how well you’ve done during the day, week, month or year. There is a sleep tracker will monitor REM sleep, deep and light sleep patterns with the help of Huawei’s Trusleep tracking algorithm. The heart rate monitoring will provide regular and accurate updates on your heart rate. The stress measure, however, does not work in India yet and there is no word yet on when Honor will enable it in the country.Honor Watch Magic BatteryThe Honor Watch Magic houses a 178mAh battery, which may not sound exciting enough but don’t let that fool you. The smartwatch easily delivers 4 to 5 days of battery life like the Samsung Galaxy Watch and that’s fantastic. Most smartwatches tend to give up after about a day or two, but the Honor Watch offers a long-lasting battery so you won’t have to reach for the charger often. It’s not surprising considering one half of the dual chipset manages power efficiency coupled with a lightweight software. The small puck-shaped magnetic charger comes with a Type-C port. It takes a little less than an hour to fully charge the Honor Watch Magic.Should you buy the Honor Watch Magic? The Honor Watch Magic is a stripped down version of the Huawei Watch GT. It’s a simple, classy-looking smartwatch that goes well with most occasions from a fashionable stand point. You get a reasonable amount of features to work with, but the software restricts you from adding anything extra. If you need a smartwatch for purely fitness tracking reasons, the Honor Watch Magic gives you what you want at an affordable price. The best things about the Honor Watch Magic is the battery life which easily takes you through 4-5 days on as single charge. The design is lightweight enough to keep it on for the whole day and even when you sleep. For its price, the Honor Watch Magic delivers just enough. But for those who want something more, like the option to add more apps, watch faces or complications, the Honor Watch Magic isn’t the one for you.advertisementHonor Watch Magic review7.5/10ProsStylish and formal designAMOLED displayExcellent battery lifeGood fitness trackingConsLaggy UINo third-party app supportGet real-time alerts and all the news on your phone with the all-new India Today app. Download from Post your comment Do You Like This Story? We were very good today, the wicket didn’t allow us to execute our plan which is to try and score quite a considerable total,” Morgan said in the post-match presentation ceremony.”Extremely impressed. He (Stokes) had a field day and especially that catch he took was absolutely outstanding. Extremely impressed.”South Africa were outplayed by hosts England in all the three departments as Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer put on impressive performances with the bat and bowl respectively as England start their World Cup campaign on a winning note.advertisementEoin Morgan was also impressed with the performance of Jofra Archer who took 3 important wickets after knocking Hashim Amla on the helmet, thus forcing him to retire hurt and setting the tone for England’s outrageous.”Slowish pitch, he (Archer) bowled fast and accurate and it’s outstanding. He is taking everything in his stride at the moment and he is improving everyday and that’s very exciting. Huge amount of pleasure. zoom The cross-industry coalition SEA\LNG has highlighted the ability of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector to meet the future emissions requirements of the global shipping industry ahead of the 70th Session of the IMO’s Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC).“Independent of the timing of the IMO’s implementation of the 0.5% global sulphur cap, today LNG is already a clean, safe, practical and economically viable fuel for the shipping industry,” SEA\LNG Chairman, Peter Keller, said.He added that the industry is making “big steps” in creating the infrastructure to enable quick, safe and cost effective LNG bunkering in key global ports, diminishing the price premium for LNG-fuelled vessels, as well as working with regulators to establish consistent international and national regulations.SEA\LNG coalition, which supports the implementation of the MARPOL Annex VI for the prevention of air pollution by ships, said that it believes the implementation date decision for the marine fuel sulphur cap needs to rest with the Member States comprising the MEPC.“LNG as a marine fuel is a proven and available solution with available technologies to meet the project needs. There are already 86 LNG-fueled ships in operation worldwide (excluding LNG carriers) and a further 95 on order,” SEA\LNG said.

VANCOUVER – A Latin-themed restaurant in Vancouver is drawing criticism for the name it shares with a notorious Colombian drug lord linked to thousands of deaths.A spokeswoman for Escobar said the restaurant owners aren’t trying to make a political statement or offend anyone with the name. However, Paola Murillo, executive director for Latincouver, a non-profit cultural society in Vancouver, said the name ignores and romanticizes the damage Pablo Escobar’s drug cartel caused over 30 years in South America and the United States.“They’re glorifying a name that brings so much pain,” Murillo said. “For us, it’s the fear we have with him. For me it brings me back to my younger years, and I don’t think it’s fair for any Colombians to go through that …. Just talking about this brings a knot to my stomach.”“You wouldn’t eat at a place called Hitler’s or Bin Laden’s,” she said.Murillo said she reached out to restaurant co-owners co-owners Alex Kyriazis and Ari Demosten to discuss the name, saying she doesn’t want to see the restaurant fail because of what it’s called.“We’re a community of 100,000 Latin Americans living in Vancouver and I think we’re quite supportive of each other … but I think it’s in their best interest to reconsider.”Neither Kyriazis nor Demosten responded to a request for an interview.Escobar’s executive chef Sarah Kashani said the restaurant owners are deeply apologetic if they offended anyone but will keep the name.“We’re entertainment, we’re a restaurant. It’s a very common name in Latin culture,” she said.Kashani said restaurants and bars elsewhere in Canada have used the name Escobar while other establishments using criminals’ names, including Capone’s, also exist.“We are inclusive of the community, we want everyone to feel good when they come in here,” she said.“We are by no means trying to promote Pablo Escobar, we didn’t name our restaurant Pablo Escobar, we named it Escobar, which is a play on words,” she said of the bar and restaurant.“We have absolute respect for the pain and suffering of these people,” she said of those affected by Escobar’s crimes.Pablo Escobar’s Medellin cocaine cartel was responsible for thousands of deaths. He died in 1993 during a shootout with Colombian police.Diana Patricia Aguilar Pulido, consul general of Colombia in Vancouver, said Escobar was responsible for “what is arguably the darkest episode of Columbian history.”“From some of the publicity, it is evident that this restaurant wants to be popular and make a profit based on a character that provided terrible suffering to countless Colombian widows, parents, children and families of all sectors of society,” she said in a statement. She invited the owners of the restaurant to learn about “the real Colombia” and reconsider the name.“How would a Canadian feel if somebody opened up a restaurant named Marc Lepine … ,” she said of the gunman who killed 14 women at Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal in 1989.Murillo, of Latincouver, said she’s heard some people are planing an opening-day protest at the restaurant on May 11, but said marching in the street is not the answer.“I wouldn’t want this to happen to (the owners), I know how much money and time and effort and love they’ve put into their business,” she said. “People have been sending me messages, but I think it would be better if people talked to the owners before.”Kashani said she’d be happy to provide appetizers for the protesters and welcomes a discussion about the name. But she said police may also be present given recent threats directed at the restaurant.

Because I can’t believe these are words that I’m reading from this organization.”Leone said she believes in having a positive body image and said the email crossed the line.“This is highly inappropriate and I don’t want to be a part of this,” Leone said.“Regardless of what we look like, if someone is going to donate because of how you make them feel and if they’re making me feel self-conscious about something that shouldn’t even concern them, then I don’t want to be a part of that.”She said she raised her concerns with the orchestra and quit the organization, adding they thanked her for being part of the group.“They continue to tell me to re-read certain parts that they highlighted in their e-mail, which was that if you’re unfit you should be dressing according to your body type that can hide certain aspects of those ‘dietary indulgences’ that they had mentioned,” Leone said.“I thought that was at least an opportunity for them to apologize or at least say, ‘Oh you know this was not something we meant to come across’ … They’re a charitable organization, they’re trying to do good and be a part of the community, it’s the last thing you thing something like that would be a part of.”According to its website, Sheraton Cadwell Orchestras has more than 100 vocalists and instrumentalists and provides entertainment at weddings, corporate events and other functions.Global News received a brief statement Wednesday night from an unnamed representative in response to written questions asking about the email sent to members and accusations of body shaming.“This is to acknowledge that your email has been with much regret. We hope that you will accept our sincere apologies,” the statement said.By Nick WestollWith files from Alana Macleod Advertisement Facebook
