Arboretum’s Weld Hill Research Building awarded LEED certification

By using less energy and water, LEED certified buildings save money, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and contribute to a healthier environment. Weld Hill incorporates water-saving technologies not only in the interior of the building, such as dual flush toilets and low-flow showers for bicycle commuters, but also through the design of its surroundings. The landscape around the building consists mainly of a “cosmopolitan meadow mix,” a selection of hardy perennials developed by Arboretum Senior Scientist Peter Del Tredici. Requiring only yearly mowing and no irrigation, this sustainable alternative to grass reduces typical water requirements by half. Read Full Storylast_img read more
