Frank Roberts & Sons Bakery has opened its £2m-plus upgrade of the former Aldreds the Bakers bakery, in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, featuring a state-of-the-art sandwich thins line. Jon Wilson, marketing director at Kingsmill owner Allied Bakeries, is to leave the business. Wilson, who has previously held roles at Kraft, Allied Lyons, Reckitt Benckiser and Vileda, joined Allied in 2005 as head of marketing for Kingsmill before moving to the director role the following year. Twenty-year-old Beauvallet, who narrowly missing out on first place in the third series of the programme, is running the company alongside her university studies. She delivered a cake to her mentor Baroness Karren Brady and the board of West Ham United at their stadium on Monday, where she discussed the business with Brady. Top pastry chef Charlotte Marrifield has bought the Harrogate Cake Company with funding support from the Royal Bank of Scotland for an undisclosed sum. The Harrogate Cake Company will become part of Marrifield’s ‘Sugar Therapy’ brand, which includes the ‘Undeniably Charlotte’ range of chilled desserts sold by Booths.
